August 27--Conservation
Group Seeking Volunteers
The Indiana Chapter of the Ruffed Grouse Society
(RGS) is seeking conservation-minded people interested in helping to improve
the environment for ruffed grouse, American woodcock, songbirds and other
Indiana forest dwellers.
According to Tom Beauchamp, meeting to discuss
the challenges of habitat restoration and the benefits to both game and
non-game species will be held on Wednesday, August 27th at Gander
Mountain Lodge, 1049 N. Emerson Avenue, Greenwood, IN beginning at 6:30
p.m.
“Forests of all ages and all types are important
as each supports its own particular wildlife species. Generally, in an
area where a greater variety of forest habitats exist there will be a greater
variety of forest birds’ song and game birds. The Indiana Department of
Natural Resources has recently started logging many areas of the state-owned
forests to restore the oak-hickory balance several threatened and endangered
bird species need to survive. Help is now needed to maintain a healthy
forest system and increase habitat for ruffed grouse and other species,”
Beauchamp said.
